6 Reasons Resveratrol is still better than Pterostilbene

Is Pterostilbene better than Resveratrol? Here are 10 reasons why we believe it’s not.

Resveratrol and pterostilbene are both natural compounds classified as stilbenoids and are structurally similar, with pterostilbene being a dimethylated derivative of resveratrol. While both have notable health benefits, resveratrol may be considered a “better choice” for longevity than pterostilbene in certain contexts for the following reasons:

1. More Research and Clinical Evidence

  • Resveratrol has been studied extensively in both animals and humans, including many clinical trials.
  • Pterostilbene, although promising, has fewer human studies and less long-term safety data.

2. Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Potency

  • While both compounds are antioxidants, resveratrol has demonstrated broader effects on inflammatory pathways (e.g., NF-κB, COX-2 inhibition).
  • It also interacts with a wider range of molecular targets, including sirtuins, AMPK, and estrogen receptors.

3. Cardiovascular Benefits

  • Resveratrol is particularly well-supported for its cardioprotective effects, such as improving endothelial function, reducing LDL oxidation, and promoting nitric oxide production.
  • Its role in the so-called “French Paradox” (low heart disease despite high-fat diets) is a major reason for its popularity.

4. Cancer Research

  • Resveratrol has demonstrated stronger anti-cancer potential in preclinical studies across various cancer types (colon, breast, prostate, etc.).
  • It can influence multiple stages of cancer development, including initiation, promotion, and progression.

5. Better Known Pharmacokinetics Despite Short Half-Life

  • While resveratrol has a shorter half-life and lower bioavailability, its metabolism and safety profile are better understood.
  • New formulations (e.g., liposomal, micronized) are improving its absorption and efficacy.

6. Safety Profile

  • Resveratrol has a well-established safety profile, with long-term use shown to be generally safe at moderate doses.
  • Pterostilbene may increase LDL cholesterol in some studies, raising concerns in certain populations.

The AEON Longevity Complex bundle contains Resveratrol as well as 20 other compounds that promote healthy aging like NMN, Quercetin, Fisetin, AKG and more… AEON is also 3rd party tested for Heavy Metals which is a rarity in this industry.
